I. The Spirit of the Youth Olympic Games is Reignited; Jianye Becomes the Center of the Global Youth Sports Stage

The 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games left a profound legacy of sports and a mark of youth on the city. Twelve years later, the consecutive hosting of these two major international events signifies that Jianye is establishing itself as a new hub for global youth sports and cultural exchange, with the “Youth Olympic Games IP” at its core. As one of the world’s largest sports dance festivals, the WDSF Asian Sports Dance Festival integrates competition, art, and culture, catering to youth, junior, and children’s age groups. Through its innovative “fusion of festival and competition” format, it creates a comprehensive carnival featuring professional competitions, public master classes, youth training programs, and industry exhibitions. The 2026 event is scheduled to take place from July 15 to 19 and is expected to attract 4,000 dancers and youth athletes from more than 50 countries and regions. It will feature multiple competitions—including championships, grand prix events, and open tournaments—simultaneously, recreating the power and beauty of the Youth Olympic Games stage.

The Taekwondo Grand Slam World Youth Club League Finals is an innovative, world-class event launched in collaboration with Changwen Sports and Culture and international sports organizations. Designed as a “cradle for future champions” specifically for young people worldwide, the 2026 Finals are scheduled to take place from August 7 to 9. The event will feature seven major categories, including individual competition, team competition, poomsae, Taekwondo Dance, and Virtual Taekwondo, covering all age groups from preschoolers to juniors. The event is expected to attract 5,000 young practitioners from more than 20 countries and regions to compete on the same stage. This is not only a competitive event but also a grand festival of cultural exchange among young people worldwide, carrying on the spirit of the Youth Olympic Games.

II. Integrating Culture, Commerce, Tourism, Sports, and Exhibitions to Build a New Ecosystem for the “Jianye Sports Business District”

The two major events will be held at the Nanjing International Expo Center. Located in the heart of Hexi New City, the venue offers a natural advantage of integrating “events and consumer spending” through its cluster of venues, hotels, and commercial districts. The surrounding area is home to high-end commercial complexes such as the Guojin Center, Deji World Trade Center, and Huacai Tiandi. Within a 3-kilometer radius, there is a comprehensive selection of mid- to high-end hotels offering nearly 10,000 guest rooms.

With the consecutive hosting of these two major events, Jianye will seize this opportunity to promote the deep integration of “culture, commerce, tourism, sports, and exhibitions” and build a “sports-themed commercial district” centered on the “Youth Olympic Games IP.” During the events, in collaboration with nearby commercial venues, a series of activities—including sports-themed markets, cultural performances, and interactive sports experiences for youth—will be organized to create a new consumer experience centered on “Exploring Jianye Through Sports,” thereby converting sports-related foot traffic into growth for the region’s economy.

III. The Convergence of Global Sports Resources Helps Nanjing Build Itself into a World-Class Sports City

Leveraging the advantages of the “Youth Olympic Riverside” initiative—one of the nation’s first high-quality outdoor sports destinations—Jianye has established a multi-dimensional sports spatial layout and formed a comprehensive service chain integrating “sports events, cultural tourism, and consumer spending.” The consecutive hosting of these two major events will align closely with Jianye’s economic development plan for its sports headquarters, driving the clustering of upstream and downstream industries such as sports training, event operations, equipment manufacturing, and digital sports, and helping Nanjing build itself into a world-renowned sports city and establish itself as a global benchmark for sports industry development.

From the Youth Olympic Games to two major international sporting events, Nanjing’s Jianye District is using sports as a bridge to connect with the world and engage with the future. This place is not only a venue for competition but also a window for global cultural exchange among young people, a hub for innovation in the sports industry, and a center where the city’s vitality bursts forth. Over the next three years, Jianye will use youth sports events as a driving force to continuously unleash the multiplier effect of “sports + cultural tourism + commerce,” contributing the “Jianye Spirit” to the development of a world-class sports city.
