On July 20–21, the 2026 Korea Open was held in Chuncheon, South Korea. This G2-level international competition saw the Chinese team win 4 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
In this tournament, the female athletes delivered standout performances, winning four gold medals in the women’s divisions, with all of them defeating their opponents 2–0 in the finals. Ye Xiaoting defeated a Moroccan competitor 5–3, 10–9 in the women’s 46-kilogram final; Wang Xiaolu defeated a Chinese Taipei competitor 6–3, 4–0 in the women’s 53-kilogram final; Xing Jiani defeated the host nation’s South Korean competitor on points in both rounds of the women’s 67-kilogram final; Song Jie defeated her Chinese Taipei opponent 6–0, 2–0 in the women’s 73-kilogram final and did not lose a single round in her five matches throughout the day.
In addition, Xu Lei and Mu Wenzhe won silver and bronze medals, respectively, for the Chinese team in the women’s heavyweight division, while Ma Jingyue and Fu Xiaolu won a bronze medal in the women’s 49-kilogram division, and Zhu Hanjing and Zhang Chuling won a bronze medal in the women’s 57-kilogram division.
In the men’s competition, Xiang Qizhang advanced to the final of the men’s 80-kilogram division, where he narrowly lost to American CJ Nicholas after a hard-fought three-round bout, earning a silver medal. Gu Jiayu lost to a South Korean opponent in the semifinals and ultimately took third place in the men’s 63-kilogram division.
It is reported that, in addition to the national team, regional teams competing as a group also won medals; Zhang Shengchen of the Jiangsu team took the bronze medal in the men’s 54-kilogram weight class.
